Time to Get Resettlement Moving!

The SHARE Network join a coalition of major civil society organisations to urge the EU and its member states to revive and scale up their refugee resettlement efforts. The statement responds to accelerating need and slow progress on current resettlement commitments. With a new record of 1.47 million refugees expected to be in need of resettlement in 2022, the statement calls on the EU and its member states to revive the Union’s global leadership on resettlement, including by:
1) Meeting the 2020 target of resettling 30,000 refugees by the end of 2021
2) Resettling at least 36,000 refugees in 2022 with a view to scaling this up further in the coming years
3) Providing a long-term, predictable and protection-oriented framework for EU resettlement by urgently adopting the Union Resettlement and Humanitarian Admission Framework
