Education Pathways Ireland Policy Dialogue: “Setting up, sustaining & growing refugee education pathways locally & nationally”

Higher education pathways provide vital opportunities for refugees to access university education, rebuild their academic careers, and contribute meaningfully to Irish society. However, developing sustainable pathways that address both local and national needs while ensuring equitable access remains an ongoing challenge.

Ireland has made significant strides in creating inclusive education opportunities through Universities of Sanctuary and community-led initiatives. Building on these foundations requires collaborative dialogue between all stakeholders to identify opportunities, address barriers, and chart a sustainable path forward.

This policy dialogue, organised by Nasc, the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre and University of Galway through the Erasmus+ HERCoN (Higher Education for Refugees Collaboration Network) project, with support from UNHCR Ireland, will bring together key actors to shape the future of refugee education pathways in Ireland.

What to Expect:

✔ Strategic discussions on expanding and sustaining refugee education pathways
✔ Insights from Universities of Sanctuary and higher education institutions across Ireland
✔ Perspectives from refugee community representatives, educators, private sector and policymakers
✔ Collaborative working sessions to develop actionable recommendations
✔ Networking opportunities with the HERCoN Community of Practice members

📅 Date: Wednesday, 3 September 2025
Time: 10:30 – 15:30 (IST)
📍 Location: Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, 16-22 Green Street, Dublin D07CR20
