Regardless of context or partnership model, effective education pathway partnerships are underpinned by common principles:

  • Context Sensitivity: Partnership structures must reflect national regulations, institutional autonomy, funding realities, and local capacities.

  • Sustainability: Partnerships should aim to move beyond short-term projects by embedding roles, processes, and funding strategies into institutional systems.

  • Transparency: Clear communication on decision-making processes, funding flows, expectations, and constraints among all partners, including donors.

  • Data security: The partners must agree on signing a data sharing agreement ensuring the security of students’ data, in compliance with the GDPR.

  • Accountability: Defined roles, responsibilities, and reporting mechanisms, with shared ownership of outcomes.

  • Predictability: Realistic timelines, funding continuity, and planning horizons that enable institutions and students to plan with confidence.

  • Equity and Power Awareness: Active recognition and mitigation of power imbalances between HEIs, NGOs, donors, governments, and communities.

  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Capacity to adjust partnership arrangements as political, legal, or operational conditions evolve.

  • Student-Centredness: Learners are partners in the pathway, not passive beneficiaries.

Principles Checklist

This checklist translates the module's foundational principles into a practical review tool. It should be understood as a reflection aid, not a scoring instrument — there is no passing threshold, only areas warranting closer attention.
